New class added: Reverse Engineering Malware
This has been a long time coming.
We had the idea for a windows malware analysis class about 3 years ago. But we knew that the material could be absorbed far more efficiently than is done today if it was prefaced by a series of classes, including an assembly class, and a generic reverse engineering class, and oh, maybe even a class teaching about the PE binary format.
Now clearly we put the cart before the horse in offering static analysis classes before dynamic analysis, since the latter is what people usually learn first. But it’s precisely because there are already many dynamic analysis classes available out there that we wanted to offer the more rare static analysis class first.
The materials for the class are now available for instructors who already know this type of material and would like to use it for teaching their own classes. Due to a scheduling conflict, videos of the class weren’t able to be recorded this time around, so look for it in the spring 2013 timeframe.
